AMR may turn out to be one of the biggest killers by 2050

  • Anti-microbial resistance (AMR) may be one of the biggest killers by 2050 and it may kill over one crore people every year worldwide. It is all set to become the commonest cause of deaths and will surpass deaths due to cancer, said Vinod K. Paul, member, Niti Ayog.
  • Microcon 2018, the 42nd annual conference of the Indian Association of Medical Microbiologists, at NIMHANS, Dr. Paul said unless the medical community wakes up to the war against irrational use of antibiotics, the world will lose nearly 3% of its GDP by 2050 due to loss of productivity.
