State’s per capita income shoots up

  • 12/03/2019
  • Karnataka continues to leapfrog the rankings in per capita income, but the economic survey released recently shows that the growth is hugely disparate.
  • Bengaluru region steams ahead while north Karnataka, in particular, lags behind. The Economic Survey 2018–19 estimates that the per capita income for 2018–19, at current prices (Net State Domestic Product), will touch ₹2,07,062, up by 12.7% compared to ₹1,83,737 in 2017–18.
  • In previous years, the State had surpassed Gujarat and Tamil Nadu in per capita income.
  • It perhaps even matches or surpasses Kerala and Maharashtra in the previous financial year (the revised estimates for these States have not been compared in the economic survey, which places Karnataka second among 13 other major States).
