Deaths in bus accidents: Karnataka 3rd in the country
- Buses in Karnataka are notorious for road accidents in the country as the state ranked third in terms of deaths due to accidents involving buses last year.
- Karnataka recorded 801 deaths from 3,239 bus accidents, says Road Accidents in India-2017 report compiled by the Union Ministry of Road Transport. As many as 1,935 people were severely injured and 3,488 suffered minor injuries in these accidents.
- Tamil Nadu topped the list with 1,856 deaths followed by Uttar Pradesh where 1,406 people lost their lives.
- Of the total 4.80 lakh road accidents last year in the country, 32,145 involved buses in which 10,651 persons died. A total 1.50 lakh persons have lost their lives in road accidents in the country last year.
- Karnataka stands third even in terms of road accidents (42,542). Tamil Nadu stands in the first place with 65,562 accidents, followed by Madhya Pradesh with 53,399 accidents.
